Day 1 (Friday) - Wild Horse Monument

Shawn dropped me off at work Friday, since our rental car was only a couple of blocks from my work. I worked a few hours and then anxiously picked up our car. While I was doing this, Shawn was at the Farmers market stocking up on jerky for our journey.

We got the car home and packed, dogs loaded up to take to Grandma's and the cat decides that he should get to go too!

Our journey finally begins, and we arrive at the Gorge just before sunset.

We stop at the Wild Horse Monument. Being raised in Washington, the horses were always a sign that we were getting close to our destination....the Gorge Ampitheater! For me, the wild horses have always symbolized wild-crazy fun that was just around the corner.

The art of David Govedare "symbolically re-creates the Great Spirit turning loose a herd of wild horses above the Columbia River's Wanapum Lake.
This was the first time we have stopped long enough to hike to the top and get a closer look at the art.

We took the opportunity to enjoy the scenery.

We continued our journey but had to stop one more time to record the color of the sky.
